Living Space Co-Founders - Melissa and Alisoun

In addition to showing our own work, we are both passionate about Living Space as an opportunity to showcase a range of local First Nations artists, so that this work is more visible, available, and part of community life.

As an independent First Nations artist and business owner, Melissa coordinates First Nations artists within Living Space. Alisoun is a non-Aboriginal artist running Crayons and Stuff as her own independent business and is hosting the Living Space pages on her website. First Nations artists' work is sold in the gallery, in person, at Living Space.

Melissa is showing her paintings and painted homewares — learn more about Melissa.

Alisoun is showing her paintings, photography, textiles and wallpaper — learn more about Alisoun.

Casey Sweetman

My name is Casey Sweetman (Weston). I am a Bunurong / Boon Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman living here on country. I’m a contemporary artist and have been creating art for over twenty years. I studied and gained qualifications in cultural arts in 2010-2012. I have been in multiple exhibitions and completed numerous commission pieces. I won an Australian Cancer Council art award for outstanding Indigenous artwork. I love being able to connect with my culture, peole, and land through my art and being able to share my journey with others. I hope my art inspires a greater understanding of the importance of connecting to the land and provides insight into how beautiful that knowledge can be.

Casey is showing her paintings and linocuts.

Laurita Thomas

I am a very proud 4th generation Bunurong / 5th generation Palawa elder who was born in Launceston, Tasmania. My artistic inspiration comes from my cultural heritage and my personal experiences. I believe art is a way of cultural healing. In 2015 two of my artworks were chosen to be part of the travelling Rural Art Roadshow, promoting positive mental health throughout rural Tasmania. I own my own creative business called BUNAWA.

Laurita is showing her woven baskets, kelp works, jewellery and wall feather hangers. For more information see @bunawa_arts

Lizzie Dalton

I am a Gunaikurnai woman from Morwell. I have overcome multiple adversities to become a respected member of the Indigenous community and the broader community. I am a passionate advocate for Australian native plants and foods. I am also an award winning artist. I dream of Spirit men and women who show me visions of where to find food and tell me how to paint the pictures. I am now making my own unique bath and body products with my own recipe of native botanicals and essential oils. All products contain Australian Indigenous ingredients.

Lizzie is selling botanical products including emu oil.
