How do you find your way into a creative idea — and what happens when you approach it from a different direction?

Creative Wayfinding is a playful, exploratory workshop for getting in touch with your creativity, generating ideas from within yourself, and discovering new ways of approaching creative work.

I (Alisoun) am excited to welcome visiting guest Melissa Nelson-Campbell as the co-host of this workshop and to Living Space Studio Gallery. Melissa is a creative arts therapist and school counsellor and shares my passion for play, exploration, and connection through through the arts. She loves creating welcome spaces where there’s no need to be “good at art” — just room to play, experiment connect and discover what might happen when we give ourselves permission to create.

We’ll experiment with simple ways of approaching creativity from different directions: through words, images, the senses, memory, metaphor, materials, and the body. Creative approaches to journalling will be explored as a useful starting point, but you don’t need to be a journal-type — the activities can be taken onto the page, into your studio, out into the world, or wherever your creativity chooses.

You might turn words into images, images into stories, memories into sensory explorations, or a feeling into colour, movement, or form. You might change perspective, introduce an unexpected element, play with materials, or simply follow a line of curiosity to see where it leads.

There is no expectation to produce finished work. Instead, we’ll explore what happens when you loosen the need to know where you’re going or meet a set of expectations, and give yourself permission to experiment.

We’ll offer a range of signposts to help you generate and develop ideas, work through stuckness, and approach your creativity with curiosity, freedom and acceptance.

All materials are provided. No experience with journalling or other artmaking is required. Just bring yourself and a desire to explore.
